Library Day.
All students gathered together in the infant’s library
at various times throughout the day to enjoy our International School Library
Day!
The children took part in various activities related
to the theme of the day, adding a different dimension to their reading classes
and further provoking their interest in reading.
Infants 3 years old:
Pre-reading skills are extremely important with younger children, so the students
thoroughly enjoyed turning the pages and focusing on the pictures in the books.
These skills are essential to learning how to read,
and what better place to learn than our own school library! Both classes then
sat quietly to watch a fun and enjoyable flashcard puppet show.
Infants 5 years old: From fables to fairy tales,
traditional tales captivate all children, so our five year old
students had a special treat today. They
watched and listened to an all-time favorite; Little Red Riding Hood.
1st Primary: Literacy skills were developed by
turning a classic tale into a role-play game with the children in first
primary.
They had the chance to
play the characters from a favorite book, which helped build up
vocabulary and support their understanding of the story.
The second year high
school students taught the younger children various 15 minute workshops, all
related to the theme of the day.
Through an entertaining
and engaging way the children leant that words can rhyme, pictures have
clues and word sounds can add meaning and richness to a story.
They were giving the chance to enjoy the traditional
tale of The Three Little Pigs acted out before their eyes, play phonetic awareness games and watch interactive
stories on the older students’ ipads.
A thoroughly enjoyable Library Day was had by all!
