Young children
love experimenting, so the students from infants 3 years were very excited
about taking part in a ‘Float or Sink’ experiment. First we collected
different objects from outside and around our classroom. Then one at a time the
children dropped each item into the tub of water. This was done with
great excitement!
Later we
discussed what we had learnt. The heavy objects sink, whilst the light objects
float.
It’s a very
simple activity but it allowed the children to practise the important steps in
the scientific process: predicting, experimenting and checking conclusions. Here are the children
documenting the results.
Let’s not
forget that we had great fun getting wet too!
